Repair cafe
Free Repairs. Held monthly. We repair your portable items. Advice given, enquiries welcome.

As a society, we throw away vast amounts of stuff, even things which could get a new lease of life after a simple repair. Unfortunately, many people don't realise how much stuff can be repaired and re-used. Knowing how to carry out repairs is a skill worth valuing, and a lack of repairing knowledge and activity is a threat to a sustainable future and to a circular economy in which useable resources are not wasted.
The Repair Cafe concept itself is only 15 years old but from small beginnings in Amsterdam it has now grown into an international movement. We support the 6 R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, Rethink and Repair - as simple ways we can lead a more sustainable life and lessen our impact on the environment.
The New Mills Repair Cafe was set up in 2019 by a group of local enthusiasts. We meet on the last Saturday of each month, from 10-12 in the morning, in the Volunteer Centre on Union Road. We repair, restore and assess most popular household items, from toys and toasters to skirts and scissors, and enquiries are always welcome. Refreshments are available.
Outside of our meeting times we can be contacted by email NMrepaircafe@hotmail.com or via Facebook Messenger (New Mills Repair Cafe). We do not charge for using the Repair Cafe, though donations are welcome.
We look forward to seeing more items to fix, or if you would like to consider joining us, please call in for a chat!
